White Grass Hut

In the Tiger Plains area, east of Black Bluff Range is White Grass Hut. It is believed to have been built in the early 1960’s for recreational purposes such as hunting and horse riding activities and in later years discovered by bushwalkers, 4WD motorbikes and vehicles.   The hut is concealed amongst tea tree scrub on the edge of thick myrtle and eucalypt rainforest with a grassy plain nearby.  Built from corrugated iron, the one room hut has an open fire place and four bunks. In recent times the bunks have been rebuilt from King Billy Pine and the hut tidied up a little indicating that it is being cared for by someone.  Next to the hut are horse yards fashioned from tea tree spars and a small A-frame structure used to store dry fire wood.  A rubbish dump a short distance from the hut is the only downside to this quaint and lesser known Tasmanian highland hut.
