Twilight Tarn Hut
Twilight Tarn gives its name to the rustic hut which sits near the waters edge in the idyllic surrounds of the Mt Field National Park. . Members of the Tasmanian Ski Club are credited with having built the hut about 1926-27 and it was regularly used well into the 1950’s. Of timber construction, it is a large hut with three rooms, each with a large fireplace and stone chimney. Skiing took place on the hills and mountains behind the hut and it is recorded that skating also took place when the Tarn in front of the hut froze over. Frequented these days by bushwalkers on the Tarn Shelf Circuit walk, the ageing hut contains memorabilia from its earlier heydays when it was popular with skiers to the area. Twilight Tarn Hut is now under the care and control of the PWS.
