Narcissus Hut

Narcissus Hut is located at the southern end of the Overland Track and sits on the banks of the Narcissus River which flows into the northern end of Lake St. Clair.  It is the final shelter for bush walkers after they complete the 64 kms Overland Track and await the ferry across Lake St. Clair back to Cynthia Bay.  The original Narcissus Hut was built in 1935 by snarers who trapped in the area.  Destroyed by fire, the then Scenery Preservation Board replaced the hut in 1963. In 2015 the hut was given a major renovation, both inside and out, by the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and today the two roomed hut boasts gas heating and ample bunks, tables and seating facilities.  The outside area has also been upgraded with picnic tables and a stepped stone walkway leading to the river.
