In the early 1960’s, Gordon Ibbott built a shack on the waters edge at Lake Ada on the Central Plateau for he and his family to use for fishing, recreation and relaxation. At the time there were many similar huts dotted around the area, however in the 1970’s the State Government decided that all buildings should be removed. Somehow, Ibbotts Hut was spared.
It ultimately passed out of the Ibbott family and today it is under private ownership with a secure future. Plans are afoot to preserve the hut and it has been mooted that it may possibly open as a museum with a display of artefacts and interpretation of the early history of the area.
