Basil Steers Hut #2

Basil Steers built his first hut (#1) on the February Plains early in the 1970’s. When it was damaged by fire in the mid 70’s, Basil relocated approx 2 kms further south and built a larger hut – now known as #2 Hut.

A short distance from the main hut, and well hidden in the bush, Basil also built a small ‘hide’ hut.  It was here that skins taken out of season were hidden from the rangers.  Very few people knew of the existence of the small wooden structure and unfortunately while Basil’s #2 Hut was spared in the 2016 wild fires, the iconic little hide hut was entirely destroyed.
