Borradaile Plain Hut
Borradaile Plain Hut sits on a large expanse of open high country in an area of the Mersey valley which has been used for decades by cattlemen for grazing stock, while snarers hunted in the surrounding forests. By the early 1950’s the original hut had been destroyed by fire and was subsequently replaced by the present hut. Borradaile Plain was the venue for the first ever Tasmanian Mountain Cattlemen’s Get Together in 1988. Well known local identity Dick Miles, a skilled bushman and expert rider, won the inaugural Mountain Cattlemen’s Championship from a large field of rivals. Dick Miles was Patron of MHPS from 1990 to 1993.
Borradaile Plains is privately managed and visitors to the area are reminded to respect the owners and afford all due care to the hut and surrounds.
