Norris/Thurston Hut
This small, rustic hut, in an out-of-the-way location on the slopes of Mt Montagu in Wellington Park, was built in December 1991 by members of the Norris and Thurston families. A natural rock face has been used for one of the walls with the rest being constructed of local stone. It has a corrugated iron roof, a pot belly fire and an exterior skillion area to keep firewood dry. The Hut is for day use only and fires should only be lit in an emergency. Superb views of the Huon Valley and Mountain River area can be gained by climbing the rock at the rear of the Hut. The Hut is managed by the Wellington Park Management Trust and Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service.
