Joe Slatter Hut

This Hut honours Joseph Arthur Slatter, an engineer with the Hydro Electric Commission (HEC) who met an untimely and tragic death in a railway accident in Melbourne in 1954.

Located on the lower slopes of Mt Rufus in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, the Joe Slatter Hut was built in the mid-1950s by the Mt Rufus Ski Club whose members at that time were predominantly HEC workers stationed nearby in Bronte Park and Tarraleah.    Ownership of the Hut was ultimately transferred to the Wellington Ski Club and is maintained by volunteer members.  It is available to the public for day use and emergency shelter only.
