Chris Lane Memorial Hut

When a good bloke and work colleague lost his life in a tragic motorcycle accident in 2021, his friends decided to build a bush hide-away in his honour.  Lee Kingston became the driving force behind the idea and rallied friends and associates to build a lasting memorial to their mate, Chris Lane, on the Hazelwood River in N.W. Tasmania. A group of work mates offered financial support to purchase materials while others assisted with the transport of materials and actual construction work. An existing track in the area needed extensive and challenging maintenance to allow access to the site.  Building of the hut commenced late in 2021 and was fully completed just four months later in March 2022.  The result is a modern-day interpretation of a mountain hut, built with treated pine and clad in color bond, complete with open log fire and gas barbecue for cooking needs. A blackwood sign above the fireplace identifies it as The Chris Lane Memorial Hut.
