Historic Cooks Hut is found at the southern end of Cooks Beach in the Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s East Coast. The Hut was built by graziers with some of the original stone work dating back to 1859. Today it comes under the management of Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service. Major work was carried out by volunteers and stonemasons in 2007 to restore and preserve the Hut which was in very real danger of collapse. The Hut consists of a large main room, a small back room and a storeroom and is for emergency use only. Bushwalkers have access to ample room for camping with sheltered tent sites in the immediate area as well as good toilets and fresh rainwater available when the tanks are full.
