High Camp Memorial Hut

The High Camp Memorial Hut is also known as the Mt Eliza Hut and is sometimes referred to as Mt. Anne Hut. Situated at the start of the walking track to Mount Eliza in the South West National Park where the environment is harsh and exposed, the Hut location serves not only walkers who trek to the summit of Mt Eliza but also those who continue on to climb the challenging Mt Anne.

The hut was built from local stone by members of the Hobart Walking Club and dedicated to the memory of three loyal Club members who had passed away in varying tragic circumstances during 1971-72.   The project was a labour of love by HWC members who carried the building materials, including bags of cement and roofing iron, up the very steep route to the elevated site of the hut.  It was officially opened in March 1974.   The Hut is now maintained by Tas PWS.
